death and the american society - whack!

on my other blog, comfy brought up the issue that professional porn promotes certain figures/roles/etc through professional porn that are not necessarily the norm...

professional porn should NOT be about the norm (in reality, you can find ANYTHING you want if you look hard enough...although i think she is referring to the more mainstream)...professional porn has one purpose - to indulge in the fantasies of others...while we may adore the reality of our SO, let's be honest...everyone has something that is a fantasy that gets them off that may/may not be dissimilar from their SO...and that's okay...

anyhow, the issue is that the promotion of professional mainstream porn is killing american society...i'm not so sure about that...

porn has been around since the beginning of time and "promoted" forms have shifted a lot over the years...and it will continue to do so...the promotion of certain body types is not kiling american society...our arrogance and inability to change is doing that quite nicely enough...

we once considered ourselves at the forefront of virtually everything...we havent exactly changed the formula much...as a whole, americans just want to maintain the status quo or they mistake the acquisition of things as moving forward...it is the acquistion of "things" that have us exactly in the mess we are in right now...we want more...at any cost, it seems...

we were founded by people that learned to adapt and adjust to the environment...and for a long time that was a big part of the american dream...work hard, make adjustments, and you will go far...now we hold out our hands and say "not me" or "why me"...

the concept of sacrifice has taken on a whole new meaning nowadays...we "sacrifice" so that we can have something new and shiny..."why be you when you can be new?" (line from the movie "robots")...we sacrifice for a better life...but a life that is filled with "things" is not a better life...just a more aesthetic one...why do we not sacrifice for a more healthy life or one that is truly focused on helping others or for the future of the children yet to come?...we dont...because we value these things so much we are willing to lay someone else out on the tracks...sacrifice...

and that is what is killing american society more than the promotion of anything the porn industry could shove down our throats...besides, we always have the choice to spit or swallow...

I think you're right. Maybe porn isn't killing our society. I didn't speak right. The images portrayed in porn as well as the media are still ruining the way we think about ourselves and others. Women feel useless if not a perky and thin as the fake females on the screen. We're competitive, not confidant, and developing eating disorders. The poll on your other site is refreshing that men really aren't after that kind of woman in a mate. For a long time it did seem that men were only after women who at the very least behaved like porn stars if not looked like them. Now women just need to get over all their issues. That might take 20 more years.

cg, I think it has to do with knowing we can trade up. There is no need to be content with the person one loves and create a deeper connection to them, when it is easier to just go get a better, new and improved partner.

I agree with the notion of ppl expecting ore 'porn star' sex as the norm, instead of the treat or exception.

Women bend to the expectations put upon them. It is now a lot easier to find a fit, sexy, educated and fiscally sound woman with a melange of sexual tricks in her Prada bag. There is no need to marry her, or really be good to her. She is competing with other women to win the Man-catching Olympics.

Like with anything, one has to 'keep up' or eschew the whole thing.

We are now able to be selfish, and so we do so. The quest for the perfect yet disposable partner is in full force. It is just one aspect of our shallow society.

@percy - the sad part is that we will sacrifice our own children to meet our own personal desires...i see it all the time...and they dont even realize what they are doing...

@comfy - no, i understand your point...and it is valid when taken into a sliver of pie all on its own...i was just trying to bring up a different way to look at it all...

(this has led me to another post here on curiosities...)

@aneris - this is like the old belief that a man should fuck as much as he wants and then expect to marry a virgin...it is a lot of pressure...

the quest for the perfect partner...true story here: i have a friend in serious marital probs...they are young, six years of marriage...obvs, money a prob...they want children, hasnt happened...he said that he cannot go through life without a child...a child of his own...when i brought up options, he said "adoption is not an option"...so i asked him..."are you telling me that you would leave her if she was physically unable to conceive or carry a child to term? when it is something out of her control?"

his response: i cant answer that...

"why be you when you can be new"...

I will reserve my sorrow at that. I have said that if I could find the man who was willing to adopt, no matter what, I would drop down and 'slob on his knob and slurp every hot glob'. Now, we know it is not gonna happen, so my knees won't be getting dirty.

As if we are making heirs to the throne, give me a break.

As to the marrying of the virgin--I think that dream has not yet died a natural death, nor will it. I would like to see it go.
